My name is Lania

I'm very found of your village I never saw and who is wearing the same name than I. I invented it one day in France, in 1979.

Today it is a pleasure for me to speak sometimes about your village : I'm story-teller. Thanks to you. I hope to perform my english later. My webmaster puts your site on my links.

Have a good day, Lania - www.lcomlania.com

Dear all, Your site has helped me a lot so I want to contribute too!

I have attached a pdf file containing the application form for the Cypriot ID card and intructions on what to bring with you. I think that these documents could come in most handy, because you save the travel to pick them up.
The information is up to date I picked it up today (11/10/2007) from the fairly new Limassol service office at the old port in Limassol. (You don't have to go to the District office anymore).

I hope you can use this information and make it available for other people.
All the best,
Miggi

Many thanks for writing to us Miggi!

Dear Editor
Firstly, my congratulations to all those involved in producing a much improved,
comprehensive website. Clearly a lot of time and effort has been spent in
putting this together. That's the positive side.

Now, I'm sorry to have to say this but, I'd hoped by going to the Lania section, I'd find out precisely why they are digging up the road once again. Managed to get my car out before being blocked in though! Yes, I know the reason why, because I asked the man digging the trench. Cyta are installing new telephone lines to eventually replace the overhead cables. Presumably this dovetails with the 'Master Plan' to remove overhead cables from the village. But what about the electricity cables and indeed the sewage system? If all this is to be done in the fullness of time, wouldn't it have made sense to lay in everything together?

Of course this actually never happens in the UK, so why should it be any different here? I know I'm dreaming, but I believe that the Muhktar should say to the respective authorities, 'you're not touching my village, until you can all agree a common period when this work can all be undertaken in one go'.

But I'm straying a little. I really would like to know about this current Cyta activity. Is it for the long awaited Broadband facility? Perhaps, if someone had known in advance we could have had a statement from Cyta put on the website, why this is happening, time frames, how close the new line will come to each house and how we go about getting reconnected and the cost (if any) to each householder.

Anyway, I suspect you didn't know about this along with the rest of us. But this is precisely the sort of up-to date news the website should deliver. How we glean this info is another matter. A monthly review with the Muhktar on forthcoming activities within the village? Blood out of a stone I suspect and that's even if he knows!

Again, as I've said before, the above comment is by no means a criticism of you or anyone else involved in the creation of this wonderful 'Village Link' facility. It's just, I believe it's the perfect way to keep everyone (with a computer at least) informed.

Kind regards and well done again for your drive in putting it all together.

Hi Chris
Thank you so much for your kind praise of the new look site. It is indeed a lot of work for all involved but worth it, I think. We still need to persuade the people who know what's going on to tell us. Once they put us in the loop we will be able to pass on all the details to our readers. Of course you could always sit in the Coffee Shop and hope someone talks to you!

I have written to the Mukhtar (President) and all his committee members (Community Board) for news on their activities and to date have received a reply from only one committee member which was sadly, not comprehensive. I have also asked the Community Board and Cyta specifically about plans for Broadband and have had no reply. I have even suggested setting up an internet cafe in Lania. I have found a computer, technical know-how, training and funding but the Cultural Club has to date, not taken up the offer.

Many thanks

From Frixos Ioannides...of MELBOURNE, Australia. ”It’s a very interesting website, and I’m sure it will attract many readers both English and greek”

New Zealand reader. - ' I have visited your village web site and am impressed. What an excellent asset - great community tool, well done all. I did laugh at the Financial Adviser's name - quite apt.'

Dear Editor
I had a scoot around the site yesterday and note that it is still overwhelmingly Lania focused. I recognize that you have been the driving force and that most of the work has been done in Lania but if this is to be a truly Commandaria Village site then we need to extend the coverage a lot more.
I would be very happy to act as coordinator for Agios Mamas and will try to find out as much as I can in the next week or two to send you. Hopefully we can interest others to represent their own villages so we can make the site a valuable resource for the Commandaria community.
Best wishes

Dear Editor
Hi my name is Caroline Farrell,I am a trained chef, living at present in Ireland, wanting to re locate to Cyprus, it is my dream to set up a Taverna, having some knowledge of Cypriot foods, I understand that a Taverna is more personal than any other main stream restaurant.

My issues are as follows:
I cannot find any information as to the legal requirements for this set up, could you please forward me in the right direction please many thanks caroline

The Editor replies:
Hi Caroline Thanks for your mail. I suggest you come to Cyprus for a couple of weeks holiday to get a feel for the place and talk to people in the catering trade. If that trip is sucessful, it's probably a good idea to come here for a longer period and get established with a job working in a Taverna. After a year or two you will have enough knowledge of the loal market and regulations to consider setting up on your own. I hope this helps

Many thanks
