ΑΓΙΟΣ ΜΑΜΑΣ
Το χωριό Άγιος Μάμας είναι ριζωμένο στο ανατολικό πόδι του βουνού Ζαλάκα που δεσπόζει όλης της περιοχής. Είναι 25χλμ απο την Λεμεσό και σε υψόμετρο γύρω στα 590μ.Είναι πασίγνωστο για το δροσερό του κλίμα κατα τους μήνες του καλοκαιριού. Υποτίθεται πως το χωριό κτίστηκε απο τους Βυζαντινούς Ακρίτες (συνοριακοί φρουροί) που προστάτευαν το νησί απο τις επιθέσεις Αράβων πειρατών μεταξύ των 7-10ου αιώνα.
Ονομάστηκε απο τον προστάτη άγιο των Ακρίτων, τον Ά.Μάμα. Έχει πολύ πλούσια και παραδοσιακή ιστορία. Δυστυχώς αυτή η θρυλική και σημαντική ιστορία καταστράφηκε απο τους τούρκους οταν επιτέθηκαν και κατάκτησαν το νησί το 1571. Ένα αποτέλεσμα της κατάκτησης ηταν οτι οι κάτοικοι του χωριού διώχτηκαν απο τα σπίτια τους και μετακίνησαν στην περιοχή Φοινίκι 1χλμ βόρεια. Το χωριό αποικίθηκαι απο τούρκους. Οι Αγιομαμίτες αναγκάστηκαν να μείνουν εκεί, γύρω απο την μικρή εκκλησία του Α.Γεωργίου (άλλου προστάτη των Ακρίτων),ως πρόσφυγες για 145 χρόνια ώσπου να ωριμάση ο χρόνος για την επιστροφή τους.
Γύρω στο 1720 ο Ά.Μάμας ως σε θαύμα εμφανίστηκε στον ιερέα Κουκούνα και του ζήτησε να κτίσει μια εκκλησία στον ίδιο χώρο που ήταν η παλιά. Ενα άλλο φανταστικό γεγονός συνέβηκε όταν ο Μικελλής Φραγκοφίνος, ο δάσκαλος του χωριού ίδρυσε το 1898 ενα σημαντικό όμιλο. Αυτός είναι σήμερα ο πιο παλιός όμιλος στην Κύπρο με πάνω απο 100 χρόνια ζωής. Έχει πολλούς θρίαμβους και επιτυχίες σε διάφορους τομείς. Αυτός είναι ο λόγος που οι χωριανοί θεωρούν το χωριό τους ως πολύ σημαντικό.
Ο επισκέπτης μπορεί επίσης να δει την μικρή και πανέμορφη εκκλησία της Αγίας Παρασκευής με τα φρεσκό της που βρίσκεται μέσα στο χωριό και την νεα εκκλησία των αγίων αποστόλων Σίλα και Σιλουανού στο Ξυλούρικο.Προσφέρει ενα χώρο για πικ-νικ αρκετό για 400 άτομα κάτω απο τα πεύκα. Υπάρχει επίσης το πολιτιστικό κέντρο του χωριού με την πλούσια του βιβλιοθήκη με 1800 τόμους.
Το χωριό τώρα έχει μόνο 120 κατοίκους παρ’όλον οτι το 1960 είχε πάνω απο 400. Οι κάτοικοι απασχολούνται κυρίως με την καλλιέργια αμπελώνων σχεδόν ολοκλήρως με νέες ποικιλίες και ελιών, αμυγδαλιών και άλλων φρούτων. Το χωριό είναο πολύ γνωστό οχι μόνο για την ποιότητα αλλά και την ποσότητα της κουμανταρίας του. Πολύ συχνά έφθανε μέχρι 2000 φορτία γαϊδάρων (που ήταν παραδοσιακός τρόπος μετρήσεως βάρους). Υπήρχαν πολλά οινοποιεία στην περιοχή αλλά τα τελαυταία δυο έκλεισαν το 1960 μετα την ίδρυση ενξος μοντέρνου οινοποιείου. |

Κατάστημα & ταχυδρομείο Αγ. Μάμα.-Ο Αντρέας ανοίγει το μαγαζί απο τις 7-9πμ και 5-7μμ.
Καφενεία Αγ. Μάμα.-Το ενα είναι απέναντι απο το κατάστημα και είναι ανοικτό απο τις 5μμ ώσπου να κλείση (11μμ και μετά).Το άλλο είναι στον δρόμο απο το Καπηλειό-Κορφή και είναι ανοικτό ολη μέρα.

Τράπεζα Αγ. Μάμα.- Υπεύθυνος της είναι ο Σταύρος.Πωλεί και γραμματόσημα και είναι ανοικτή Δευτέρα και Παρασκευή 8πμ-1μμ και 2.45μμ-5.30μμ.
Ξυλουργός Αγ. Μάμα.-Ο παπά Αντρέας και ο γιος του Γιώργος (τηλ.99039567,99719602,25433814)κάνουν πόρτες και έπιπλα.Παραδείγματα της δουλειάς τους θα βρείτε στην εκκλησία όπου έχουν κάνει πολλούς απο τους σκάμνους. |
Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο Αγ. Μάμα.Το κέντρο επίσης στεγάζει και το γραφείο του κοινοτάρχη (τηλ.99905151) το οποίο είναι ανοικτό Δευτέρα 5-7μμ,Τρίτη 8-10πμ,Πέμπτη 5-7μμ,Παρασκευή 8-10πμ και Κυριακή 11πμ-12.
